Randy’s Fund
While we adore each and every malamute that comes into rescue, it’s the seniors who hold a special place in our hearts. So we are honored to introduce “Randy’s Fund”—a new fund dedicated to providing our senior rescues with the medical care they need.
Named for one of our most beloved seniors, Randy first came to WAMAL in 2015 as “Richter” and was adopted to a wonderful home where he was a cherished member of the family—his “pawrents” made him home-cooked meals and taught him commands in both English and German. After 5 years, the adopters arrived at a difficult crossroads: they needed to move into an assisted living facility and Randy needed to find a new home.
Once Randy came back into WAMAL’s care he quickly became a volunteer favorite with his handsome looks and winning ways. Everyone said he was 10 going on 4! He was never low on energy and didn’t suffer from arthritis or other health issues often seen in older dogs. Randy loved his volunteer-led hiking trips and was always ready for an adventure! Unfortunately, Randy was a confounding mix: he was too active for adopters wanting a senior dog but adopters wanting an active dog were discouraged by his age.
Randy spent just over a year in rescue at our Malley Valley kennel where he received tons of love, attention, and activity. Randy quietly passed on e evening in 2021, with our caretaker by his side while he began his journey over the rainbow bridge. We were all stunned and brokenhearted by his passing. To honor him, one of the large play paddocks was renamed “Randy’s Run.” Randy’s essence runs free at Malley Valley and his sassy, loving ways are greatly missed.
We are proud to honor Randy’s memory by caring for other senior mals with support from our cherished malamute community—people like you! This is such an incredible way to make a difference in the lives of our senior Mals. We’ve made it super easy to donate, and any amount will help our seniors!
